First Grade Trees

Another little spin off pinterest. This is a 2 day-er for 1st grade. Warm color tissue paper put down with watery glue and brown scribbled paper for day one. Day two we crumpled the brown paper for extra tree bark texture and talked about how a tree starts large and then branches out with medium and smaller twigs. A little log border was a final touch. I have a group of the and I'll re post as soon as I take the picture!

  1. These are really cool! Did you paint with white tempera over the tissue paper background? The whole effect of everything together is really nice! :)

    1. They just did tissue paper first onto thick white paper. Then did a smaller sheet of brown. I've painted on the brown, used brown construction paper, even color white paper brown and do brown water color for a resist-totally your choice, all work fine.

  2. I understand the tissue paper part, but are you saying you scribbled on the brown paper, crumpled it, smoothed it out and THEN cut out the tree?

    1. You got it! We scribbled browns all over, crumpled it up and then cut out rectangles for the tree. I tried to paint it but I found the brown, scribble paper looked more tree-like.
